American curator and author Anne Tucker presents a compilation of ten influential 19th-20th century female photographers: Gertrude Käsebier, Frances Benjamin Johnston, Margaret Bourke-White, Dorothea Lange, Berenice Abbott, Barbara Morgan, Diane Arbus, Alisa Wells, Judy Dater, and Bea Nettles. Created in the early 1970’s, a time when the field was overwhelmingly male-dominated, Tucker examines the persistent under-representation of women and addresses questions surrounding gender and artistic practice- particularly how social expectations, including motherhood and patriarchal structures, shape a woman’s creative vision.
